For the 3L, the second round couldn’t have started with more frustration, but couldn't have ended with more satisfaction. After a win Thursday night in Laval, the 3L now have a date with Sorel-Tracy for the LNAH Championship starting next Friday night.
The series started out with a humiliating end to an otherwise hard fought battle. After two scoreless periods in the Colisee de Laval, the wheels seemed to fall. Six third period goals and the ensuing vocals from the Petrioliers' faithful put a bitter end to an otherwise hard fought game.
24 hours later, the team looked to right this ship on home ice. The team came out firing on all cylinders in terms of both speed and physicality. Their efforts would pay off as they headed into the first intermission up 1-0. However, the good start simply wouldn’t last. A compressor breakdown caused not only an end to the game, but an annulment of the first period where they had worked so hard to earn a lead. It would be an entire work week before they could resume play, and it would be back in Laval… still down 1 game to 0.
When Friday finally rolled around and the team rolled into Laval, things finally started to look up. Picking up where they’d left off, a convincing 4-0 win in hostile territory set the tone for the remainder of the series. Back-to-back wins on home ice sent the series back to Laval where not even the most difficult atmosphere in the league could stop the momentum. A convincing 8-3 final in the House of Pain finished off the series with 4 straight wins and a ticket to the finals.
Riviere du Loup will play for the championship for the second consecutive year and will have its hands full with a highly talented Sorel-Tracy squad that became the favorites to win it all after Round 1. For now, they’ll enjoy not only the latest series win, but the sweetness of the rebound that it came in on.
