Round 1 resumes tonight, with all 4 matchups starting at 8 PM. Coming out of opening weekend, the one on everyone’s mind is the 1-8 series between Saint-Georges and Quebec. As many expected, it’s been anything but a warmup. In fact, it’s the only series that’s tied at 1 game each.

Both games were decided by a one goal, making the series a true nail biter. The BIG story, however, is Quebec netminder Tristan Cote-Cazenave, who’s record setting 83 save performance in game two gave his team the win and made headlines across the province.

How that will transition into tonight’s game isn’t an easy answer. With a full work week between “the performance” and game 3, can Cote-Cazenave keep the lightning in the bottle and replicate his red-hot series start? A lengthy break makes that unlikely, but the quirky uniqueness of goalies says that its possible. Also, given the amount of interviews and media coverage he’s had, the probability that he’s remained in game mode during the down time is higher than normal. On the other side, has the rough start, and the inability to solve Cote-Cazenave been a motivator an anxiety builder for the CoolFM Squad? In either case, the most important person going into tonight is Saint-Georges head coach Kevin Cloutier, who most likely had to trade in his role as coach for that of psychologist.

Whether looking at the weekend split, or the Cote-Cazenave factor, the pressure’s on Saint-Georges tonight. Look for a fast start with an onslaught of shots on goal as the boys from the Beauce try to get one in the net early. The longer they go without a goal, the more Cote-Cazenave will get between their ears. Cloutier has had his work cut out for him this week, and it will continue tonight.

If there’s going to be a sweep, it’ll come from Sorel-Tracy. They’re up 2-0 and are simply a better team. Jonquiere kept game two close and they can certainly take one from the Eperviers, but there won’t be any surprises if they don’t.

Expect a rebound from Thetford tonight. The 3L are up 2-0 but look for the winningest coach in league history to rally his troops on home ice.

It’s always exciting when Laval and Saint-Hyacinthe square off, and the series has delivered with some early game fireworks. While the Petroliers have been the better team all season, 3 or 4 straight against the backyard rival doesn’t seem likely. Look for the Batallion to find the win column this weekend.
