LHSAAAQ Games and Teams to Watch

With the release of the 2026-27 Schedule, the LHSAAAQ is ready to go. Each of the ten teams will again feature a 26 game slate, played out exclusively on Friday and Saturday Nights. While the league has not yet released a streaming schedule, fans can begin making plans for the season that starts on Friday September 25th.  With that, it’s time to look at some of this season’s intriguing games and storylines.

Granby: We can’t talk about the league without starting with the two-time reigning champs. The Bison will help the league christen the Laval Coliseum on Friday the 25th before hosting Beaupre for a banner raising on Saturday the 26th. These two highly emotional games will kickoff a season-long watch on a team making a run at a threepeat. Can the Bison do it? The answer will start unfolding on the 25th.

New Kids on the Block: The league welcomes Bedford-Cowansville, who come in as an expansion into the Eastern Townships and a natural rival to Granby. A relocation of the Nicolet Franchise, Southbec Express was one of the most active teams on the trade front, up to and including the draft. To build the on-ice product, this team has shown it’s willing to go all in. Things look similar with the off-ice ice product as well with a big name title sponsor, an experienced office & coaching office staff and a heavy on-line presence. Bedford-Cowansville has set high expectations. What will happen when the puck drops? Southbec Express kicks off the season at Valleyfield on Friday the 25th before their home opener on the 26th versus Laval.

Bigger is Better? The Chambre HC franchise (and league) has taken a gamble on a large arena with the move to the Laval Coliseum. Where Granby has worked out, Trois-Rivieres has been a tough sell. How will the newly named District HC do at filling the seats (and budget) of 3,100 seat colisee? The home opener will be a great show versus Granby on the 25th, but the true answer will evolve over the course of the season.

Restart in Trois-Rivières:. Speaking of Trois-Rivieres, to say that the Mega Toit were a disappointment last season would be putting it lightly. Eric Haley came in to right the ship at the end of the season, and things have been looking up since. An augmented ownership and title sponsor should provide Haley & company with the support needed to continue the late season turn around. The new look BSR kick things off at home Friday the 25th vs St-Lambert.

Overall, the league has lined up an excellent opening weekend featuring its first game at the Laval Coliseum, a banner raising in Granby, and a monster home and home matchup between Plessisville and Donnacona. The season will see the league in three new towns and the champs going for a threepeat. It all starts on the final weekend of September. Fans have plenty to look forward to.
